Launching February 2024

We’re absolutely thrilled to have you here as we embark on an exciting journey to help make flight-free travel in Europe more accessible and easy to navigate. Our brand-new website is a work in progress, and we can’t wait to share it with you. But the bottom line is this: we want to help you overland Europe as sustainably as possible, but without the preaching — we believe every step towards a flight-free journey is a good one, both for the planet and our adventurous souls!

Our Goal: Flight-free trips without the fuss…

We want to bring all the resources for trains, busses, hikes and ferries (guides, reviews, tips, booking details) together to make going flight-free in Europe even easier. Trust us: we know how hard planning a big flight-free trip can be – we’ve plenty of experience – and this is why we decided to create FFE.

Our Promise: Conscious travel without being condescending

Sustainable travel advice often focuses entirely on the environmental side (of course, it’s important) and forgets the joy of slow scenic travel. We promise to avoid condescending tones. This is a site for all, no matter where you are on your flight-free journey.

Our Resources: No-fly deals delivered directly to you

Two of the hardest challenges of going flight-free in Europe are time and money. We get that rail can cost more than flights (crazy, right) and not everyone has weeks to slow travel. As such, our magazine and weekly email deals will summarise the best deals no matter your budget or trip length.

Who and why…

Flight Free Europe is all about discovering the beauty of Europe in a way that’s affordable, sustainable, and incredibly rewarding. We firmly believe that there’s a world of experiences waiting for you beyond the skies, and we’re here to help you uncover them. Our Editor, Daniel James Clarke, is a professional travel and guidebook writer, blogger, and slow-travel advocate, and he will oversee the mission of Flight Free Europe: to make sustainable travel fun again while providing all the tools to do so in one place.

After we launch in early 2024, our goal will be to inspire you to explore this remarkable continent using alternative modes of transport. Imagine hopping on a train that winds through scenic landscapes or setting sail on a boat adventure along Europe’s stunning coastlines to islands not accessible by public ferry. Picture yourself pedalling through storied villages on a bike or embarking on a soul-stirring multi-day hike, immersing yourself in the rich culture and heritage that Europe has to offer.

At Flight Free Europe, we understand the pressing need to make conscious choices when it comes to travel. We’re here to provide you with the tools, resources, and insider tips you need to plan your flight-free European adventure, all while minimising your impact on the environment. But we also get that travel must be fun, simple, and enjoyable, hence why we want to make the environmental impact easy rather than a chore.

With our in-depth online articles covering sustainable travel without the hassle, our complimentary ‘No-fly Europe travel club’ which sends weekly deals and tips (similar to the many online flight deal clubs, but grounded), and our quarterly digital magazine, we will not just inspire you to enjoy Europe flight-free but provide the tools, tips and deals to do so.

Thank you for being a part of Flight Free Europe. We can’t wait to see where our flight-free adventures take us.
